In line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directive, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, is leading a nine-member high-level delegation in New York. The delegation is set to engage with key United Nations leaders, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the UN General Assembly, to present Pakistan’s position on the recent Indian aggression.
Pakistan’s Diplomatic Push at the UN
Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is spearheading the delegation’s efforts to project Pakistan’s perspective on India’s recent actions, emphasizing the country’s commitment to peace and responsible conduct. The meetings with UN officials and ambassadors from both permanent and non-permanent members of the UN Security Council aim to underline Pakistan’s call for dialogue over conflict, advocating for diplomacy as the primary solution to the escalating tensions in South Asia.
International Outreach: Washington, London, and Brussels to Follow
Following the high-level meetings at the UN, the delegation will travel to Washington, London, and Brussels to continue advocating for Pakistan’s position on regional security. The diplomatic efforts will focus on highlighting the importance of dialogue and diplomacy while underscoring the need for international involvement to ensure a lasting peace in the region.
Separate Delegation Heads to Moscow
In addition to the UN meetings, another delegation led by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Syed Tariq Fatemi, will visit Moscow. This diplomatic mission, starting on Monday, will further emphasize Pakistan’s position on peace and its strategic interests in South Asia amid India’s ongoing aggression.
Key Focus Areas: Indus Waters Treaty and Regional Peace
One of the critical themes of these delegations’ outreach will be the immediate resumption of the normal functioning of the Indus Waters Treaty, which remains crucial for maintaining peace and cooperation between Pakistan and India. The delegations will also stress the need for the international community to actively contribute to de-escalating tensions in the region.
