Karachi Jolted by 29th Mild Earthquake Since June 1

Karachi experienced another mild earthquake on Thursday night, marking the 29th tremor since June 1, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre.

Another Low-Intensity Quake Hits Karachi
A 2.0 magnitude earthquake struck Karachi at 7:54pm on Thursday, with its epicentre located 11 kilometres northeast of Malir, reported the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Although no damage or injuries occurred, the tremors triggered panic among residents.

Fifth Day of Consecutive Seismic Activity
This marks the fifth straight day the metropolis has experienced tremors, following three separate quakes on Wednesday alone. Karachi, one of Pakistan’s most populous cities, has been under a seismic cycle for nearly a week now.

Expert Clarifies Seismic Risk
Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider Laghari addressed public concerns, denying claims of any imminent major quake. “No technology exists globally that can predict earthquakes,” Laghari stated, adding that the tremors are likely due to the Landhi fault line undergoing natural adjustments.

Historical Context and Global Perspective
Laghari noted that Karachi has previously experienced moderate quakes of magnitudes 5.5 and 5.8. “Millions of mild earthquakes occur daily worldwide,” he emphasized, urging the public not to believe in unfounded predictions.
