DUBAI: Iran will soon present a counter-proposal to the United States through Oman, rejecting Washington’s latest offer as “unacceptable,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday, amid stalled nuclear negotiations.
Tehran Rejects US Proposal
Baghaei criticized the recent U.S. proposal, saying it does not reflect previous talks and fails to address key Iranian concerns. “The U.S. proposal is not acceptable to us. It was not the result of previous rounds of negotiations,” he stated, adding that Iran’s new offer will be “reasonable, logical, and balanced.”
Key Demands: Sanctions Relief, Trade Normalization
Iran insists that any deal must ensure economic benefits before sanctions are lifted. Baghaei stressed the need for restored banking and trade relations with global partners, a recurring sticking point in negotiations.
Dispute Over Uranium Enrichment and Stockpile
Iranian officials say the U.S. proposal does not satisfactorily resolve core issues — such as uranium enrichment on Iranian soil, the transfer of enriched uranium abroad, and assurances for lifting sanctions. These remain major barriers to progress.
Khamenei Vows Continued Enrichment
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei recently dismissed the U.S. offer, reaffirming Iran’s right to enrich uranium domestically. Western powers view this as a risk for potential nuclear weapons development, while Iran maintains its program is purely for peaceful purposes.
Israel’s Role in the Background
Baghaei accused Israel of trying to derail talks and called for international pressure on Tel Aviv to disarm. He also hinted at releasing documents allegedly exposing Israeli nuclear ambitions, asserting that the global community should not let Israel sabotage diplomacy.
