The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) on Thursday unveiled the revised curriculum for MDCAT 2025, introducing structural changes to the test and outlining new admission criteria for medical and dental colleges.
Key Subjects and Test Format Announced
According to PMDC President Dr. Rizwan Taj, the MDCAT 2025 will feature five subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, and Logical Reasoning. The exam will consist of 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) with no negative marking, and will span three hours. Question difficulty will be divided as 15% easy, 70% moderate, and 15% difficult.
Test Dates and Admission Criteria
The test is expected to be held in the last week of September or on the first Sunday of October. Candidates will need at least 55% marks to qualify for admission into medical colleges, and 50% for dental colleges, Dr. Rizwan Taj confirmed.
Nationwide Standardization and Question Bank Development
The updated curriculum was developed in consultation with education boards, academic experts, and universities. PMDC has also begun creating a standardized question bank to ensure transparency and consistency in the examination process.
Parliamentary Oversight and Reforms Underway
Earlier, the National Assembly Standing Committee on National Health Services stressed the importance of fairness in MDCAT and proposed a unified curriculum to eliminate regional disparities. The committee also highlighted concerns over out-of-syllabus questions and called for more accurate and error-free papers moving forward.
