ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has confirmed its 12th polio case of 2025, after a 33-month-old boy from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district tested positive for the virus, the National Institute of Health reported on Friday.
The case was identified in the Shamsi Khel Union Council, bringing the nationwide tally of polio cases this year to 12.
So far in 2025, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported six cases, Sindh four, while Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan have each reported one case.
Meanwhile, a nationwide anti-polio vaccination campaign is ongoing with strong momentum, according to the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC).
The NEOC noted that 97% of targeted children have been vaccinated during the six-day campaign.
Vaccination coverage reached 97% in both Punjab and Sindh, 98% in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 97% in Balochistan. Azad Jammu and Kashmir also achieved a 98% coverage rate, while Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad surpassed expectations by vaccinating 101% of the estimated target.
The NEOC further confirmed that the coordinated polio eradication efforts between Pakistan and Afghanistan are advancing effectively.
