Renowned Pakistani actress Ayesha Khan was found dead in her apartment located in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area. According to police, the body appeared to be around a week old, and she had been living alone.
The incident came to light after neighbors reported a foul smell coming from the apartment, prompting a call to her family. Police responded and shifted the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal procedures, after which it was moved to Edhi Foundation’s mortuary in Sohrab Goth. A post-mortem examination will be conducted upon the request of her family.
Details regarding the time and location of her funeral prayers will be shared later.
Ayesha Khan was a celebrated figure in Pakistani television, known for her performances in iconic dramas such as Afshan, Uroosa, Aanch, Bandhan, and Shaam Se Pehle. Born in 1948, she was the elder sister of actress Khalida Riasat.
One of her most notable roles was in Afshan, where she portrayed a resilient woman raising two children alone after her husband and brother were forced to flee during the Partition.
Paying tribute, a senior figure from the Arts Council of Pakistan remarked that Ayesha Khan’s contribution to television drama over more than five decades is an irreplaceable loss to the entertainment industry.
