Operation Details
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that security forces conducted the IBO in the Sararogha area of South Waziristan, targeting terrorists linked to the Indian proxy group “Fitna al Khwarij.” During the operation, troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location, neutralizing 11 militants and injuring seven others. However, the intense exchange of fire resulted in the martyrdom of Major Syed Moiz Abbas Shah, 37, a courageous officer known for his bravery in numerous anti-terror operations, and Lance Naik Jibran Ullah, who also fought gallantly.
Ongoing Efforts
A sanitization operation followed to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area. The ISPR reiterated the military’s resolve to eradicate Indian-sponsored terrorism, stating, “Such sacrifices of our brave men further strengthen our resolve.”
Regional Security Context
The operation comes amid a slight uptick in militant activities in May 2025, with the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reporting 85 militant attacks nationwide, a 5% increase from April. These incidents resulted in 113 fatalities, including 52 security personnel and 46 civilians. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan accounted for 82 of these attacks, with Balochistan facing the highest violence, recording 35 attacks and 51 deaths. Despite heightened tensions with India, militant groups have largely been contained, though security personnel deaths surged by 73% in May, underscoring ongoing risks.
