20 Terrorists Killed in Major Counterterror Operations Across KP
ISPR Confirms Two Successful Engagements Against India-Backed Militants
Security forces in Pakistan have neutralised at least 20 terrorists in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed on Monday. The operations were conducted between November 8 and 9, targeting militants linked to the Indian proxy group Fitna al-Khwarij.
Operations in North Waziristan and Dara Adam Khel
According to ISPR, the first engagement took place in the Shawal area of North Waziristan, where eight terrorists were killed after troops effectively targeted their hideout. In another intense exchange of fire in Dara Adam Khel district, 12 more militants were eliminated.
Security forces have since launched extensive sanitisation operations to ensure the complete clearance of the affected zones and to eliminate any remaining threats.
‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ Drives Counterterrorism Push
The ISPR reiterated that the ongoing campaign, Azm-e-Istehkam, endorsed by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, remains a comprehensive effort to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan. The statement reaffirmed that operations by security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue with full intensity until the menace is completely wiped out.
National Leadership Hails Security Forces’ Bravery
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif both lauded the armed forces for their successful operations and sacrifices in defending the nation.
President Zardari praised the professionalism and courage of the security personnel, describing their success as a testament to Pakistan’s unity and resolve. He reiterated that the elimination of Fitna al-Khawarij and their Indian-backed facilitators is part of the nation’s collective mission to restore lasting peace.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed similar sentiments, saluting the troops for their sacrifices and unwavering commitment. “The protection of Pakistan is our foremost priority, and we remain resolute in eliminating every form of terrorism,” the premier asserted.
Rising Threats and Cross-Border Tensions
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terror incidents, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban’s rise to power in 2021. Militants have launched hundreds of cross-border attacks, claiming the lives of both civilians and security personnel.
In the first eight months of 2025 alone, KP recorded over 600 terror incidents, resulting in the martyrdom of at least 138 civilians and 79 police officials. Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban government to prevent its soil from being used for attacks against Pakistan.
Recent Border Clashes With Afghan Taliban
Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan escalated in October after cross-border attacks led to heavy clashes. On October 12, Pakistan carried out precision strikes on multiple Taliban and militant positions in Kandahar and Kabul, reportedly killing over 200 militants.
The clashes also claimed the lives of 23 Pakistani soldiers. Following intense engagements, both sides agreed to a ceasefire after requests from the Afghan Taliban administration.
