Sindh Approves Rs25bn Plan to Rebuild Karachi Roads, Streets and Drainage Network
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has approved a massive Rs25 billion infrastructure initiative to rebuild Karachi’s damaged roads and internal streets, directing all departments to begin work immediately and ensure proper drainage and sewerage systems are constructed alongside every rebuilt route.
Chairing a high-level meeting on Monday, the chief minister stressed that repairing Karachi’s deteriorated roads had become urgent after the recent spell of heavy rains and ongoing mega development projects that have slowed traffic and strained the city’s mobility.

315 Internal Streets and 60 Major Roads to Be Reconstructed
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab briefed the meeting that 315 internal streets across the city require urgent rehabilitation, while 60 major roads have been identified for reconstruction under the Rs25bn plan.
He said the citywide restoration work would also include the installation and repair of streetlights.
CM Murad instructed officials to immediately approve all street-repair proposals and accelerate execution, making it clear that “delays will not be tolerated.” He reiterated that funding for the project was fully available and emphasised quality work for citizens.
Drainage, Sewerage Systems to Be Built With All Roads
The chief minister directed that every newly built road — whether a neighbourhood street or a major artery — must include properly designed drainage and sewerage systems to prevent flooding during rains.
He added that Karachi’s infrastructure challenges require coordinated efforts across all agencies and ordered them to work in tandem to avoid repeated excavation or delayed utility works.
Additional Development, Water Supply Projects Reviewed
CM Murad congratulated Mayor Wahab on the recent inauguration of RO plants in Keamari, saying the provincial government is committed to expanding clean drinking water facilities alongside improving roads, policing, and civic services.
He also noted that the Sindh Safe City Project has contributed to reducing traffic accidents, adding that improved infrastructure will further enhance public safety.
