Zil Hajj Moon Not Sighted: Pakistan to Celebrate Eid ul Adha on June 7

ISLAMABAD — The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Tuesday evening that the Zil Hajj moon was not sighted, meaning Eid ul Adha will be celebrated across Pakistan on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

The announcement was made by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, following a crucial moon-sighting session held in Islamabad.

“It was decided with consensus that Zil Hajj 1, 1446 Hijri will be on Thursday, May 29, and Eid ul Adha will be observed on Saturday, June 7,” said Azad during a press conference.

🌙 Cloudy Skies, No Testimonies

Despite coordinated efforts from zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees across the country — including Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar — no credible moon-sighting testimonies were received.

Religious scholar Mufti Ramzan Sialvi confirmed the absence of moon sightings in Lahore, echoing reports from Karachi’s zonal committee which stated that no evidence was received from any part of Sindh.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) supported the outcome, noting that while the new moon was born at 8:02 AM on May 27, its visibility window by sunset was too narrow — just 11 hours and 34 minutes — making moon sighting “highly unlikely.”

🕋 The Significance of Eid ul Adha

Eid ul Adha, also known as Bakra Eid, is the second major Islamic festival after Eid ul Fitr. It commemorates the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and marks the conclusion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah.

According to Suparco (Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission), astronomical data aligns with the official decision, predicting that Zil Hajj 1 would fall on May 29, placing Eid ul Adha squarely on June 7.

With the Eid date now confirmed, Pakistanis can begin preparations for Qurbani (sacrifice), charity, and communal prayers, which traditionally span three days of spiritual and social significance.
