Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Warns of ‘Nuclear War Reality’ Over India’s Indus Waters Threat

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has warned that a nuclear conflict between Pakistan and India could become a “reality” if New Delhi proceeds with its threat to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), terming the move “water terrorism” and an act of war that demands immediate reversal.

India’s IWT Threat Sparks Alarming Response
Addressing a press conference in London, Bilawal condemned India’s reported decision to unilaterally suspend the IWT following the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He cautioned that constructing new canals or dams on Pakistan-bound rivers would be viewed as a direct act of aggression. “Pakistan has been very clear: we’d consider that an act of war,” he stated.

Accusations of Regional and Global Destabilisation
Bilawal accused India of engaging in “transnational repression,” citing the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada and an attempt on Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in the US. He praised Western intelligence for acknowledging Indian involvement in such acts and criticised Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar’s remarks about striking inside Pakistan, calling them “warmongering.”

Pakistan’s Military Strength and Diplomatic Wins
Lauding Pakistan’s armed forces, Bilawal claimed, “We are proud that the Pakistan Army won the war against India under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir,” crediting military and diplomatic channels for countering India’s narrative. He insisted that India’s claims about Pakistan’s role in the Pahalgam attack are baseless and part of a “strategy of war mongering.”

Global Mediation and Kashmir Issue
Welcoming former US President Donald Trump’s past offer to mediate between the two countries, Bilawal said Pakistan appreciated efforts to internationalise the Kashmir issue. He stressed that Kashmir is not a bilateral issue but a global one. A new dossier, he added, will soon be shared with international actors, highlighting India’s alleged role in cross-border terrorism.
