Dahlmeier, 31, was climbing Laila Peak, which rises to 6,069 meters, with a mountaineering partner when a rockfall struck her on July 28. The incident occurred at an altitude of approximately 5,700 meters.
Despite a swift rescue operation being launched, the efforts were hampered by adverse weather conditions, preventing a helicopter from reaching the site. On July 29, her management confirmed that the recovery operation was called off, and Dahlmeier’s death was officially confirmed.
Dahlmeier, who retired from biathlon in 2019 at the age of 25, had achieved remarkable success during her career, including becoming the first female biathlete to win both a sprint and pursuit double at the same Olympics. Her achievements made her a household name in Germany and the global sports community.
