Hussain Farid Khan, a Pakistani-origin businessman residing in London, has been arrested and charged with laundering £37 million over an extended period. The 35-year-old, who appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, denied all charges and was remanded in custody following the rejection of his bail application.
Hussain Farid Khan, a 35-year-old Pakistani national, has been charged with two counts of money laundering involving a staggering £37 million. Khan, who resides with his parents in Wembley, northwest London, was arrested as part of a counter-terrorism investigation into extensive money laundering activities between the UK and Pakistan.
Appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Khan denied the charges, which span from 2017 to March 2025. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has accused Khan of concealing, disguising, converting, and transferring criminal property. According to prosecutor Frances McCormack, Khan transferred substantial sums of money between his various business accounts, masking the original sources of these funds, which were then integrated back into the economy without any explanation of their origin.
Khan, who also goes by the name Haji Hussain Farid Khan, has been operating as the CEO and an active director of several businesses, including HFK Group of Companies and HFK Global Limited, which are involved in the gold and diamond trade. Despite his high-profile role in these businesses, he has failed to provide a clear explanation for the origin of the funds in question.
In his defense, Elisenda Mitchell, representing Khan, stated that her client holds indefinite leave to remain in the UK and has lived there since 2004. Mitchell emphasized that Khan is motivated to clear his name and intends to contest the charges at trial.
District Judge Michael Snow, addressing Khan’s alleged involvement in the money laundering operation, confirmed the scale of the charges, stating that Khan had laundered a total of £37.7 million worth of cash and property. Following the hearing, the judge decided to remand Khan in custody until a preliminary hearing.
The case has raised significant concerns about illicit financial activities, particularly involving international money laundering networks that span across borders. Further developments in the case are expected as Khan prepares to defend himself against the charges.
