Local Holiday Declared in Islamabad on August 13 Ahead of Independence Day Celebrations

In preparation for the 78th Independence Day celebrations, the Islamabad authorities have declared a local holiday for Wednesday, August 13, 2025. This holiday, aimed at enhancing the festive spirit, comes just a day before the nationwide celebrations marking Pakistan’s independence and its recent victory in the battle of truth (Marka-e-Haq).

Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner, Irfan Nawaz Memon, confirmed the announcement via a post on social media, stating that August 13 will be a local holiday within the Islamabad Capital Territory. However, essential services, including those from MCI, CDA, ICT Administration, ICT Police, IESCO, SNGPL, and hospitals, will continue to operate as usual.

The holiday announcement coincides with ongoing preparations for Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day. Across the country, preparations are in full swing, with streets and buildings decorated with national flags and colorful lights. In Islamabad, the vibrant green and white flags adorn government offices and public spaces, reflecting the city’s spirit of patriotism and unity.

This year’s Independence Day celebrations are further enhanced by the victory in Marka-e-Haq, the recent conflict between Pakistan and India. The success of the operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos has added a layer of significance to the national festivities, symbolizing Pakistan’s resilience and determination.

In addition to the usual Independence Day decorations, the capital is buzzing with markets selling national flags, buntings, caps, and children’s clothing, all in the signature green and white colors. The festive atmosphere is heightened by the cultural displays and artistic installations set up around the city.

Moreover, to maintain a peaceful environment during the celebrations, the district administration has imposed a ban on the sale and use of plastic horns (bajay), a move aimed at reducing noise pollution.

With Islamabad illuminated and adorned for the occasion, the city is ready to celebrate not only the anniversary of Pakistan’s independence but also its recent triumph in Marka-e-Haq, making this year’s celebrations truly remarkable.
