The United Kingdom has announced £1.33 million in humanitarian aid to support Pakistan’s flood-hit regions, providing food, clean water, medical camps, and trained rescue volunteers to assist more than 223,000 people affected by the ongoing monsoon devastation.
ISLAMABAD – The United Kingdom has pledged £1.33 million in emergency aid to Pakistan as devastating monsoon rains continue to trigger floods and landslides across multiple provinces.
The assistance will reach over 223,000 people in seven severely affected districts of Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan (GB), and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). According to the British High Commission, the aid package includes dry food rations, mobile medical camps, rehabilitation of drinking water systems, restoration of irrigation channels, and livelihood support for affected communities.
“Through UK-funded programmes, vital assistance is reaching communities affected by flooding and landslides,” said British High Commissioner Jane Marriott. She reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s disaster response in collaboration with national and provincial authorities.
As part of this initiative, 2,400 volunteers have been trained in search and rescue operations across vulnerable districts. Twenty-five of them, from Charsadda, are already supporting Rescue 1122 teams in Buner, where many victims remain missing or trapped under debris.
Mobile medical camps are being deployed in areas where health facilities have been destroyed, ensuring continuity of essential healthcare. Families displaced by the floods are receiving non-food items, shelter kits, and dignity packs for women.
Coordination efforts are being supported by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), particularly in Swat and Buner, to ensure timely and effective delivery of aid.
The monsoon’s destruction has been severe, with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reporting nearly 750 deaths since late June. Over 400 people have died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone, while eleven more fatalities were confirmed in Gilgit Baltistan this week. Entire villages have been swept away, leaving thousands displaced and in urgent need of relief.
