Severe Flooding Hits Key River Headworks in Punjab
Punjab, Pakistan – On Wednesday, the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) issued an alarming report confirming exceptionally high flood levels at critical headworks along the River Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej in Punjab. The intense flooding has raised significant concerns for local communities and authorities, as these rivers continue to swell due to continuous rainfall.
Chenab River at Record Levels
The River Chenab has seen alarming water inflows at key headworks. At Head Khanki, the inflows have reached 564,172 cusecs, with outflows at 530,537 cusecs. Similarly, Head Marala is experiencing inflows of 465,132 cusecs, with outflows just slightly lower at 463,635 cusecs. The Qadirabad headworks are also recording high flood conditions, with inflows standing at 530,537 cusecs.
These extreme water levels at major points on the Chenab River are a significant cause for concern, as they pose a high risk of further flooding in surrounding areas.
Ravi River Faces High Flood at Sidhnai
On the River Ravi, the situation is equally dire. Head Sidhnai has reported exceptional flood levels, with inflows reaching 160,580 cusecs and outflows at 157,580 cusecs. Additionally, high flood conditions have been observed at Balloki, where inflows and outflows stand at 114,130 cusecs.
Sutlej River Struggles with Major Flooding
The River Sutlej, particularly at Ganda Singh Wala, is also experiencing critical flood levels. Inflows and outflows at this location have been recorded at 319,295 cusecs. At Sulaimanki, the situation remains similarly concerning, with the river reporting inflows and outflows of 132,492 cusecs.

With multiple rivers experiencing high flood conditions, authorities are on high alert across Punjab. The rising water levels are expected to increase the risk of widespread flooding, with communities along these key rivers facing imminent danger.
