Petrol Price Reduction has been announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, bringing partial relief to citizens after a sharp surge in fuel prices triggered nationwide concern.
The prime minister confirmed that petrol prices have been reduced to Rs378 per litre for a period of one month. The revised rate will take effect from midnight, following an earlier steep increase that had significantly burdened consumers.
Petrol Price Reduction Amid Global Pressure
The government’s decision comes at a time when international oil markets remain volatile due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Addressing the nation, the premier highlighted that rising global oil prices have affected economies worldwide, pushing inflation to critical levels.
He emphasized that Pakistan is navigating “challenging times,” noting that even developed economies are struggling under inflationary pressure caused by soaring energy costs.
Relief Package Announced Alongside Petrol Price Reduction
Along with the petrol price reduction, the government has introduced a broad relief package aimed at easing financial pressure on key sectors.
Motorcycle users will receive a subsidy of Rs100 per litre, while small truck operators are set to benefit from a monthly subsidy of Rs70,000. Larger freight vehicles will receive Rs80,000 per month, and public transport operators are expected to get Rs100,000 monthly support.
Additionally, a per-litre subsidy has been introduced specifically for freight transport to stabilize supply chains and control rising logistics costs.
Support for Farmers and Public Transport
The government is helping farmers and daily commuters deal with rising costs. Small farmers will get Rs1,500 per acre to cover expenses like fuel and fertilizers.

At the same time, Pakistan Railways will keep economy-class ticket prices the same, so people who rely on trains can continue to travel affordably. These steps aim to reduce the financial pressure on both farmers and everyday travelers during the fuel crisis.

Consultations and National Coordination
According to the prime minister, the decision was finalized after extensive consultations at the President’s House. Key stakeholders, including provincial chief ministers, representatives from Azad Kashmir, and senior military leadership, participated in the discussions.
The premier acknowledged the cooperation of provincial governments, praising their commitment to allocating resources promptly for public relief.
Economic Measures and Austerity Steps
As part of broader economic management, the government has extended austerity measures. Federal cabinet members will now forgo their salaries for six months, doubling the previously announced period.
The move is intended to signal fiscal discipline while redirecting resources toward public welfare amid the ongoing fuel crisis.
