Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Crisis has intensified political tensions between the federal government and the PTI-led provincial administration, with Defence Minister Khawaja Asif calling for “important decisions” over the province’s deteriorating security situation. Khawaja Asif Calls for Crucial Decisions

In a statement posted on X, Khawaja Asif accused the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of showing indifference toward the province’s terrorism problem while its leadership remained focused on political activities and the ongoing PTI long march.

The defence minister alleged that the provincial government had failed to adequately respond to recent attacks and argued that the security situation required immediate attention. His remarks came amid heightened tensions between Islamabad and the PTI-led KP government over the political march and wider disagreements between the two administrations.

Asif said that the time had come for important decisions and warned that the entire province could not be left at the mercy of what he described as incompetent and insensitive rulers.

Five Killed in Dera Ismail Khan Attack

The minister specifically referred to an attack in Dera Ismail Khan on October 6 in which five people were killed, including two Customs officials.

Asif criticized the provincial leadership over its alleged response to the incident. He claimed that neither the chief minister nor the provincial cabinet had publicly condemned the killings or offered condolences to the affected families.

The allegations were made as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continued to face security challenges, with terrorism remaining a major point of disagreement between the federal government and the provincial administration.

Criticism of PTI Provincial Government

Khawaja Asif accused the PTI-led administration of concentrating on its political long march while the province was dealing with another wave of militant violence.

He also alleged that evidence of links between elements of the provincial government and militants had emerged over the past several years. These remain allegations made by the federal defence minister and were presented in the context of the ongoing political dispute between the Centre and the PTI-led KP government.

The defence minister contrasted the present situation with the period when the PML-N was in opposition. He said that despite imprisonment of Nawaz Sharif, members of his family and other PML-N leaders during the PTI government, his party continued to pursue its political and legal disputes through parliament and the courts.

Allegations Over Security Coordination

Asif also alleged that the KP chief minister had called a meeting concerning the Inspector General of Police and Chief Secretary after they attended a security meeting convened by the provincial governor.

According to the defence minister, such developments reflected broader problems in coordination over security matters in the province.

The federal government has increasingly raised concerns about the KP administration’s approach to counterterrorism and national security. Other federal officials have also publicly criticized the provincial government and called for greater cooperation with Islamabad.

Federal-Provincial Tensions Escalate

The latest confrontation comes as the PTI’s long march continues to fuel tensions between the federal government and the KP administration. The federal government has maintained that Islamabad’s security must be protected, while the PTI has continued to pursue its political demands through the march.

Separately, Khawaja Asif has said that Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be a last resort, although the federal government is considering constitutional and legal options depending on developments.

For the federal government, the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has become intertwined with concerns over the political confrontation surrounding the PTI march. For the provincial government, the dispute remains part of a wider conflict with Islamabad over political authority and governance.

Concluding his remarks, Khawaja Asif said the bloodshed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could not continue indefinitely. He stressed that Pakistan’s unity must not be placed at risk and that an entire province could not be held hostage amid continuing political and security tensions.See More on Pulse Pakistan
