Five Policemen Martyred in Terrorist Attacks Across KP Districts

In a series of coordinated terrorist attacks on Wednesday night, five policemen were martyred, and five others injured across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The attacks targeted law enforcement personnel in the districts of Upper Dir, Lower Dir, and Peshawar.

The first attack took place in Upper Dir, where militants ambushed a police mobile van, resulting in the martyrdom of three officers and leaving three others injured. Shortly after, militants targeted the Hassan Khel Police Station near Peshawar and two nearby checkposts. Police managed to repel the attacks on the police station and checkposts, but one policeman was martyred, and another sustained injuries.

In Lower Dir, a constable was martyred during a terrorist assault on a checkpost in the Lajbok area. These attacks highlight the continuing security challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This wave of violence comes after authorities recently announced plans to take action against militants in Bajaur and Khyber districts of KP. The decision followed failed negotiations with local tribal elders under the Bajaur Amn Jirga, who had sought the expulsion of militants from the region. Government sources revealed that over 650 militants are believed to be present in two key areas of Tehsil Mamund in Bajaur and Khyber district.

These deadly assaults add to the growing concerns over the increase in terrorist activities across Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. According to a report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), there were 78 terrorist attacks nationwide in June alone, resulting in at least 100 deaths.

The escalating violence has underscored the urgent need for strengthened counterterrorism efforts in the region.
