A police officer was martyred and six others injured on Monday when a suicide attack targeted a police mobile in the Bakhmal Ahmadzai area of Lakki Marwat, according to officials. The bomber detonated himself as the vehicle passed by, while an accomplice managed to escape.
Police and rescue teams reached the scene shortly after the explosion, shifting the body and the injured personnel to a nearby hospital. Authorities said a search operation had been launched to track down the second attacker.
Attackers arrived on motorcycle, says DPO
Lakki Marwat District Police Officer (DPO) told reporters that the two suspects arrived at the location on a motorcycle. He said police intercepted the attackers after tracing their movement and forced them off the main road onto a dirt track. The suspects opened fire, prompting retaliatory shots from the police.
During the exchange, one assailant detonated his explosive vest, while the other fled. The DPO said the officers “risked their lives to prevent greater destruction,” noting that the prompt response likely averted a larger tragedy.
PM condemns attack, pledges elimination of terrorism
Prime Minister PM Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the blast, extending prayers for the martyred officer and the injured. He directed authorities to ensure immediate medical care and expressed hope for the swift recovery of the survivors.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to eradicating militancy, the prime minister said terrorists are “enemies of innocent and unarmed civilians” and vowed to crush their violent agenda. He stressed that Pakistan will continue its fight until terrorism is completely eliminated.
