ISLAMABAD: Pakistani middle-order batter Asif Ali has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a career spanning five years across T20Is and ODIs.
The 34-year-old right-hander revealed the news on Instagram on Monday, describing his time in the national colours as the “proudest chapter” of his life.
“Wearing the Pakistan jersey has been the greatest honour of my life, and serving my country on the cricket field has been my proudest chapter,” Ali wrote.

A Journey of Highs and Lows
Asif Ali made his international debut in 2018 and went on to feature in 58 T20Is and 21 ODIs, scoring a combined 959 runs. Known for his big-hitting ability, he played key roles for Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cups of 2021 and 2022.
One of his most memorable contributions came in the 2021 T20 World Cup, where his late fireworks helped Pakistan secure vital wins against New Zealand and Afghanistan.
Reflecting on his career, Ali expressed deep gratitude to fans, teammates, and coaches for their support throughout his highs and lows. He also paid tribute to his family for their unwavering backing, particularly during the personal tragedy of losing his young daughter during a World Cup campaign.
“To my family and friends, who stood with me in moments of joy and in the deepest of trials, your strength carried me forward,” he said.
Final Appearance
Ali last represented Pakistan in October 2023 during the Asian Games match against Bangladesh. Despite mixed performances, his reputation as a fearless striker of the ball earned him a loyal fan following and a permanent place in Pakistan’s modern cricket narrative.
