The Ravi and Chenab Rivers are bracing for severe flooding in the coming days as heavy rainfall in upper catchment areas and increased water discharge from upstream dams continue to push water levels dangerously high. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable regions to relocate immediately and follow safety advisories.
The Ravi River is expected to overflow between August 30 and September 3, driven by continuous rainfall in the upper catchments and rising water release from Thein Dam. At Balloki, the river flow has already surged to 146,995 cusecs and continues to rise.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), a significant flood wave is anticipated to reach Sadhnai between September 2 and 3, with water discharge ranging between 125,000 and 150,000 cusecs. Authorities have warned that this may trigger a severe flood situation at Sadhnai.
In Lahore, areas around Ravi River, including Raiwind and adjoining localities, face immediate risk. Districts such as Kasur, Pattoki, Okara, Renala Khurd, Depalpur, Gogera, Tandlianwala, Kamalia, Pir Mahal, Adda Hakeem, and Sadhnai are also likely to be impacted.
Meanwhile, the Chenab River is already experiencing a severe flood at Chiniot Bridge, where the water flow has reached an alarming 855,000 cusecs.
Authorities have advised people living near rivers and vulnerable waterways to evacuate to safer zones immediately. Residents are urged to:
- Avoid unnecessary travel in flood-affected areas.
- Keep emergency kits ready with food, water, medicines, and important documents.
- Stay connected with local administration and rescue teams for updates.
- Use the NDMA Disaster Alert App for real-time information and safety guidance.
With water levels expected to remain dangerously high until mid-next week, officials continue to stress vigilance and timely precautionary measures to minimize risks.
