Trump Pledges to Address Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions After Middle East Trip

Trump Vows to Resolve Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions After Middle East Trip

US President Donald Trump has promised to address the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan upon his return from his current diplomatic mission in the Middle East. Speaking to reporters on Sunday aboard Air Force One, Trump reaffirmed his reputation for resolving global conflicts and expressed confidence that he could help ease the strain between the two nations once he completes his Middle East engagements.

Trump, who is set to visit Israel and Egypt, described himself as “good at solving wars,” claiming credit for resolving several long-standing conflicts, including the India-Pakistan dispute. “This will be my eighth war that I have solved,” Trump stated, referencing his efforts to broker peace in various global conflicts, including the Gaza ceasefire.

Trump Reflects on Past Peace Deals

The president further elaborated on his past successes, recalling his efforts to resolve wars that had persisted for decades. “Think about India, Pakistan. Think about some of the wars that were going on for years. We had one going for 31, one going for 32, one going for 37 years, with millions of people being killed in every country, and I got every one of those done, for the most part, within a day,” he added.

Trump also took time to mention his influence on global diplomacy, stating that his unique approach had been instrumental in facilitating peace agreements. He credited his ability to use economic measures, including trade tariffs, to help resolve conflicts. “I settled a few of the wars just based on tariffs,” Trump said. “For example, between India and Pakistan, I said, if you guys want to fight a war and you have nuclear weapons, I am going to put big tariffs on you both, like 100%, 150%, and 200%. I had that thing settled in 24 hours.”

Trump’s Peace Efforts in the Middle East

As part of his ongoing diplomatic efforts, Trump will address the Knesset in Israel before traveling to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, for a summit focused on ending the Gaza war. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is also expected to attend the summit, signaling international efforts to bring an end to the ongoing conflict.

Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner recently participated in a rally in Tel Aviv, calling for the release of hostages and the cessation of hostilities. The US, alongside Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, has helped mediate a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, marking the first phase of a potential peace process.

Hopes for Hostage Release and Peace

At the rally, demonstrators expressed hope for a peaceful resolution. “For two years we’ve been waiting for this day, for this moment,” said Dalia Yosef, a demonstrator in Tel Aviv. “All of us feel happy for the family, for the hostages, that finally, we will see them,” she added, thanking Trump for his role in brokering the ceasefire and the subsequent release of hostages.

As Trump continues his Middle East trip, the international community watches closely, hopeful that his diplomatic efforts will bring peace to some of the world’s most volatile regions, including the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
