Hodeidah: The Israeli military conducted a series of strikes on Houthi-controlled sites in Yemen, targeting key infrastructure in the port city of Hodeidah and other areas, in response to ongoing attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels against Israel.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the operation, stating that the strikes hit “terror infrastructure” at the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif, as well as the Ras Al-Kathib power station. The military described the targets as critical to Houthi operations, accusing the group of using these sites to facilitate attacks on Israel. The operation was launched following repeated Houthi missile and drone assaults, including two missiles fired toward Israel hours after the strikes, which the IDF said it attempted to intercept.
Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV reported that the strikes targeted Hodeidah’s port, alongside Ras Isa, Salif, and the Ras Al-Kathib power station, causing disruptions in the region. Hodeidah, a vital hub for humanitarian aid and food imports, serves millions in Yemen’s war-torn northwest. The Israeli military emphasized that the strikes were a direct response to Houthi aggression, which has included ballistic missile and drone attacks on Israel since the onset of the Gaza conflict in October 2023, in what the Houthis claim is solidarity with Palestinians.
The operation marks a continuation of Israel’s efforts to counter Houthi attacks, which have also disrupted global shipping in the Red Sea. No immediate casualty reports were confirmed, but the strikes underscore escalating tensions in the region as the Houthis persist in their campaign against Israel and its allies.
