Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has appointed new chief justices to four high courts across Pakistan, effective from the date they take their oath of office, as per notifications issued by the law ministry on Monday.
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) nominated Justice Sarfraz Dogar as the chief justice of the Islamabad High Court, Justice Rozi Khan Barrech for the Balochistan High Court, Justice Syed Muhammad Attique Shah for the Peshawar High Court, and Justice Junaid Ghaffar for the Sindh High Court. These appointments were finalized after four consecutive JCP meetings, where a majority decision allowed the acting chief justices to assume the top roles permanently, in accordance with Article 193(1) of the Constitution, which governs the appointment of high court judges.

The newly appointed chief justices are expected to take their oaths later this week. President Zardari will administer the oath to Justice Sarfraz Dogar at the Presidency, while the respective governors will conduct the oath-taking ceremonies for the chief justices of the Balochistan, Peshawar, and Sindh High Courts. The law ministry’s notifications confirm that these appointments mark a significant step in strengthening judicial leadership across the provinces.
