Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Washington for crucial talks as part of his eight-day visit to the United States. Dar is set to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with discussions focused on strengthening Pakistan-US relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
On Thursday night, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar touched down in Washington, DC, marking the second phase of his eight-day visit to the United States. Upon his arrival, he was warmly received by Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, and senior embassy officials.
During his visit, Dar is slated to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the Department of State, where both leaders will engage in high-level talks. The discussions are expected to cover various aspects of Pakistan-US relations, with a strong emphasis on enhancing bilateral trade, investment opportunities, and economic cooperation. This meeting will mark Dar’s first official interaction with Secretary Rubio.
In addition to the diplomatic talks, Dar is scheduled to address a gathering at The Atlantic Council, a prominent US think tank. His address will focus on Pakistan’s perspective on regional and global issues, and the future trajectory of Pakistan-US relations.
The US State Department has confirmed that senior leaders from both nations will be in attendance at the meeting, with spokesperson Tammy Bruce also participating in the discussions.
Furthermore, a delegation from Pakistan is also set to engage with officials from the Trump administration. This includes negotiations over the trade agreement, with the aim of addressing the 29% reciprocal tariffs imposed earlier in the year. Pakistan is looking to increase imports of American cotton and soybeans, aiming to ease trade tensions and further strengthen economic ties.
Diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the US have been improving recently. This is highlighted by the invitation extended to Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, for high-level talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House. Dar’s visit underscores Pakistan’s growing role in global diplomacy and multilateral forums.
Additionally, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has also held productive meetings in Washington, discussing trade talks with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. These efforts reflect the ongoing commitment from both sides to enhance trade relations and economic cooperation.
