Pakistan’s civil and military leadership has strongly condemned India’s ongoing illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir, marking the sixth anniversary of the revocation of Article 370 by India. On Youm-e-Istehsal, the nation reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and called on the international community to hold India accountable for its actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Pakistan observed Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir on Tuesday, with leaders from both the government and military condemning India’s illegal actions in Jammu and Kashmir. The day marks six years since India’s controversial revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and bifurcated the region into two union territories.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a special message, reiterated that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He called on the international community to take action to end India’s human rights violations in IIOJK and reverse the unlawful changes imposed since 2019. Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that these actions are in direct violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
“The continued oppression of Kashmiris, the alteration of the region’s demographic structure, and the denial of basic human rights are a clear threat to regional stability,” PM Sharif remarked. He also saluted the courage of the Kashmiri people, who have endured decades of brutality with remarkable resilience.
In his statement, President Asif Ali Zardari stressed the importance of resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Zardari highlighted India’s systematic efforts to alter the region’s demographic and political landscape, including gerrymandering electoral constituencies, issuing domicile certificates to non-Kashmiris, and granting greater powers to India’s Lieutenant Governor in the region.
The Pakistan Armed Forces also issued a statement expressing full support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination. Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir and other top military officials reaffirmed the commitment to stand by Kashmiris in their pursuit of freedom and justice. The armed forces condemned India’s illegal occupation, calling it a grave violation of international norms that only worsens regional instability and human suffering.
Pakistan’s continued advocacy for the Kashmir cause underscores its position on the need for a just and peaceful resolution to the dispute. Despite India’s attempts to silence Kashmir’s voices, Pakistan remains a steadfast ally to the Kashmiri people and continues to call for global intervention to uphold their rights and aspirations.
