Hamas Seeks Amendments to Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan, Including Disarmament Clause

DOHA – Hamas officials are pushing for changes to key clauses in U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, particularly regarding disarmament, according to a Palestinian source close to the group’s leadership. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that Hamas negotiators are in discussions with Turkish, Egyptian, and Qatari officials in Doha to revise several aspects of the plan.

Trump’s proposal, which has been endorsed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, includes provisions for a ceasefire, the release of hostages by Hamas within 72 hours, the disarmament of the group, and a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. However, the Palestinian source indicated that Hamas is focused on amending the disarmament clause, along with clauses related to the expulsion of Hamas and its factional members.

Furthermore, the source stated that Hamas is seeking “international guarantees” for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and assurances that no assassination attempts would be carried out against Hamas leaders, either within Gaza or abroad.

The source also noted that Hamas has been in contact with “other regional and Arab parties” to further discuss their concerns, though specific details of these discussions remain unclear.

As the negotiations continue, the fate of Trump’s peace plan remains uncertain, with the potential for further amendments as regional players and the involved parties work to find a solution that addresses the complex issues at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
