WASHINGTON – In response to rising tensions following an Israeli strike on Qatari territory, the United States has pledged to defend Qatar against any external attacks, offering the Gulf state security guarantees. The commitment, outlined in an Executive Order signed by President Donald Trump, reinforces Washington’s stance on ensuring the territorial integrity of Qatar, a key US ally in the Middle East.
The White House declared that “any armed attack” on Qatari soil would be considered a direct threat to US interests, prompting the US to take “all lawful and appropriate measures” to protect both American and Qatari interests. These measures could include diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military actions to restore peace and stability in the region.

This strong stance follows an Israeli airstrike on September 9, which targeted Hamas officials in Qatar who were reportedly involved in discussions over a US peace proposal for the ongoing Gaza conflict. In the wake of the strike, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized to Qatar’s prime minister in a phone call from Washington, assuring that such actions would not be repeated.
Qatar plays a pivotal role in US regional strategy, hosting the largest US military base in the Gulf, al-Udeid, which serves as a critical hub for US Central Command operations. The base’s strategic significance highlights Qatar’s importance in broader US military and diplomatic initiatives in the Middle East.
The US security guarantee marks a significant development in the already complex geopolitics of the region, as Washington signals its readiness to defend its allies against external threats while maintaining a delicate balance in its relationships with Israel and Gulf states.
