Islamabad — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) of Pakistan has expressed optimism that the safe evacuation of former senator Mushtaq Ahmad, who is currently detained by Israeli forces, will be completed in the “next couple of days.” The FO stated that it is working “tirelessly” to secure the release of Ahmad, who was apprehended by Israeli forces during the interception of the Gaza aid flotilla.
A press release from the Foreign Ministry confirmed that Pakistan’s Embassy in Amman has been actively engaged in efforts to facilitate Ahmad’s return with the assistance of the Jordanian government. “With the invaluable assistance of the Jordanian government, we are hopeful that the process can be successfully concluded within the next couple of days,” the FO statement read. It further expressed deep gratitude to the Jordanian authorities for their cooperation and support.
Earlier, the Foreign Ministry confirmed that through diplomatic channels, Pakistan had been assured of Ahmad’s safety and good health. He was reportedly detained on October 2, during an attempt to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a mission that included international activists and aid groups.
The FO noted that a friendly European country’s diplomatic channels confirmed that Ahmad was in Israeli custody and would soon be presented before a court. Once deportation orders are issued, his repatriation will be expedited on a “fast-track basis.”
Mushtaq Ahmad, who was leading a five-member Pakistani delegation, joined the flotilla in solidarity with other activists bringing aid to Gaza, which has been under an Israeli blockade. The flotilla, which consisted of multiple vessels, was intercepted by the Israeli military approximately 42.5 nautical miles (79 km) from Gaza. Over 450 activists aboard the flotilla were detained, sparking widespread criticism from the international community.
Pakistan has maintained close communication with its international partners to ensure Ahmad’s safe repatriation, with the government expressing its commitment to securing the release of its citizens from abroad. The country’s diplomatic efforts in this case highlight its ongoing commitment to the protection and welfare of Pakistani citizens globally, particularly in volatile regions.
