Dubai Airport Resumes Limited Flights After Iran Strikes

Dubai Airport Resumes Operations

Dubai Airport announced a limited resumption of flights on Monday evening, three days after Iran’s strikes forced closures across the Gulf. Emirates and low-cost carrier flydubai will restart selected flights, while Etihad Airways plans to resume operations on Tuesday.

The temporary suspension affected Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) after missiles and drones targeted civilian and military infrastructure, making regional airspace unsafe.

Impact on Emirates, flydubai, and Etihad

Emirates confirmed via X that priority will be given to passengers with existing bookings, and rebooked travellers are being contacted directly. All other flights remain suspended. Flydubai follows a similar approach, while Etihad Airways, operating from Abu Dhabi, will resume flights on Tuesday.

Authorities urged passengers not to travel to airports unless formally notified, warning that operations may be adjusted depending on the security situation.

Regional Air Travel Disruption

The disruption caused severe global transit chaos, with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha airports either closed or heavily restricted. Dubai International Airport, the world’s second-busiest after Atlanta, is a critical hub for global air traffic. Thousands of flights were canceled, highlighting the vulnerability of the region’s aviation network to geopolitical conflicts.

Casualties and Infrastructure Damage

Iran’s strikes targeted military and civilian sites, including airports, hotels, residential areas, and seaports. UAE authorities reported one fatality in Abu Dhabi. Projectiles were intercepted near Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah, underscoring ongoing threats to airspace safety.

The attacks follow US and Israeli strikes on Iran, reportedly killing Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, escalating regional tensions.

Economic and Aviation Implications

Dubai’s aviation sector accounts for about one-third of the emirate’s economy. The temporary closure represents a significant economic shock. Experts warn prolonged disruptions could affect trade, tourism, and business in the Gulf. Airline operations will remain phased and closely monitored based on security developments.
