PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Faisal Karim Kundi has declared that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s policies will be determined in Islamabad rather than Kabul, Kandahar or Jalalabad, outlining his administration’s priorities following the reported imposition of Governor’s Rule in the province.

Speaking at his first press conference after assuming his new responsibilities, Kundi emphasized restoring law and order, strengthening counterterrorism capabilities and improving cooperation between federal and provincial institutions.

He acknowledged that addressing problems accumulated over the previous 13 years would take time but expressed confidence that improvements would become visible within three months.

Faisal Karim Kundi Defines KP Policy Direction

Faisal Karim Kundi said the federal government had entrusted him with significant responsibilities during a challenging period for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He described the imposition of Governor’s Rule or emergency measures as a last resort and emphasized that provincial decisions must remain aligned with Pakistan’s constitutional framework.

“Our policy will come from Islamabad, not Kabul, Kandahar or Jalalabad,” he said.

His remarks highlighted his position that domestic policy should be formulated within Pakistan rather than influenced by external centers.

The governor pledged stronger coordination between Islamabad and Peshawar to address governance and security challenges.

Security Operations Planned Across 12 Districts

A central announcement concerned plans for intelligence-based operations in 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Kundi said terrorism and criminal activities would not be tolerated, warning that individuals violating the law would face legal consequences.

He stressed that restoring public confidence required effective cooperation among civilian authorities, police and security institutions.

The governor did not provide a detailed operational timetable or identify all 12 districts during the remarks reported.

Police Reforms and Support for Martyrs’ Families

Faisal Karim Kundi identified strengthening the police and Counter Terrorism Department as immediate priorities.

He announced that the federal interior minister had provided 10 vehicles to support law enforcement capabilities.

Additional assistance would focus on meeting security institutions’ operational requirements.

The governor also promised continued support for families of personnel killed in the line of duty, including assistance for their children.

Governor Criticizes Former PTI Administration

Kundi criticized the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf provincial administration, alleging inadequate cooperation with federal authorities.

He also questioned its approach toward counterterrorism, arguing that stronger coordination was necessary.

Referring to recent political demonstrations, he claimed protesters had failed to achieve their objectives.

He sarcastically remarked that those promising a revolution had not even reached the Governor’s House.

These observations represented the governor’s political assessment rather than independently established conclusions about the protests.

Responding to questions about Sohail Afridi, Kundi said the federal interior minister had informed him that Afridi was in protective custody.

He described Afridi as being in safe hands but did not provide further details about his legal status.

Kundi emphasized that arrest and release decisions belonged to the relevant legal authorities.

He maintained that individuals facing registered cases would undergo legal proceedings, while those without cases should be released.

Provincial Financial Rights and Border Trade

The governor pledged to pursue Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s financial entitlements through dialogue with Islamabad.

He said provincial financial claims would be presented to the federal government with supporting arguments.

Addressing economic concerns, Kundi acknowledged that border-related disruptions had created difficulties for traders.

He promised efforts to resolve commercial challenges and improve conditions for business activity.

The governor also announced that the president and prime minister were expected to visit the province soon.

Federal Cooperation and Future Priorities

Faisal Karim Kundi said his administration would prioritize practical governance, public security and economic development over political confrontation.

He emphasized that the success of his administration would ultimately be judged by its performance.

Although acknowledging the scale of existing challenges, he expressed optimism about the province’s future.

Concluding his address, Kundi said darkness was followed by light and expressed hope that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was entering a period of greater stability and prosperity.

His announcements establish a stated agenda, but their implementation and results will depend on subsequent government action.See More on Pulse pakistan
