Balochistan security operation in the province’s Kharan and Washuk districts has resulted in the deaths of 11 militants and the recovery of 2.9 tonnes of explosives, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military’s media wing said the intelligence-based operations were carried out on September 6 and 7 following reports about the presence of militants associated with what it described as the Indian proxy group Fitna al-Hindustan. The operations targeted militant activity in two separate locations in Balochistan.
Balochistan Security Operation Targets Militants in Kharan
According to ISPR, the first operation took place in Kharan on September 6 after militants attempted to establish a roadblock and disrupt local traffic.
Security forces responded promptly and engaged the militants, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals described by the military as Indian-sponsored terrorists.
The operation prevented the reported attempt to interfere with movement along the road and demonstrated the security forces’ rapid response capability, according to the military statement.
The incident comes amid continued counterterrorism activity in Balochistan, where security forces have conducted a series of intelligence-based operations in recent weeks.
Three Militants Killed in Washuk Operation
A second operation was conducted in Washuk district on September 7.
ISPR said the operation was deliberately planned after intelligence indicated the presence of militants in the area. Security forces targeted a militant hideout, leading to an intense exchange of fire.
Three militants were killed during the engagement, while the hideout was also cleared, according to the military’s account.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of approximately 2.9 tonnes of explosives. ISPR said the material was being used for the preparation of improvised explosive devices, raising concerns over the potential use of the explosives in future attacks.
Security Forces Continue Clearance Operations
Following the two operations, sanitisation activities were launched in the surrounding areas to identify and eliminate any remaining militants.
The military said the operations against what it describes as foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism would continue.
ISPR also reaffirmed that the counterterrorism campaign under Azm-e-Istehkam would proceed at full pace. The initiative was approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan and is aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s response to terrorist threats.
The latest operations add to a broader series of security actions in Balochistan. Earlier this month, security forces reported killing dozens of militants in separate operations across several districts of the province.
