ISLAMABAD: The European Union (EU) has announced emergency assistance worth nearly Rs350 million to support Pakistanis affected by the recent flash floods that have killed hundreds and left many more missing.
According to the EU, the relief package will be channeled through humanitarian partner organisations already working on the ground. The aid will prioritize life-saving health services, clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities to curb the spread of disease in flood-hit areas. In addition, cash support will be provided to vulnerable families struggling to meet essential needs.
EU’s Message of Solidarity
In a statement, the EU expressed solidarity with the people of Pakistan during what it described as a “critical time.” The bloc also extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster.
The announcement comes as Pakistan continues to grapple with widespread devastation caused by torrential rains and overflowing rivers, which have displaced thousands of families and disrupted electricity and communication systems in large parts of the country.
Humanitarian organisations, including Rescue 1122, the Pakistan Army, NGOs, and provincial disaster management authorities, are currently engaged in relief and rescue operations alongside international partners.
