Two members of the Balochistan Constabulary, including an acting deputy superintendent of police (DSP), were martyred, and two others were injured when unidentified gunmen attacked their convoy on the National Highway in Mastung district on Friday. The assault marks a disturbing rise in attacks on security forces in the region.
The tragic incident occurred when a convoy of the Balochistan Constabulary, traveling from Kalat to Quetta, was ambushed by terrorists near Mastung. Acting DSP Abdul Razzaq and Constable Raza Muhammad Jam lost their lives in the attack, while Constables Taj Muhammad and Khursheed Ahmed sustained injuries.

Following the assault, the bodies of the fallen officers and the injured personnel were airlifted to Quetta for medical treatment and further investigation. The provincial government has launched a formal inquiry into the attack, promising that those responsible will be brought to justice. Shahid Rind, a spokesperson for the provincial government, condemned the attack, calling it an act of terrorism aimed at disrupting peace in Balochistan.
The recent surge in such attacks against security forces in Balochistan has raised concerns. Earlier this year, a similar attack in Mastung killed three policemen and injured at least 16 others. The region has also witnessed other incidents, including a grenade attack on a police checkpoint in Sibi-Harnai and a deadly bus firing in Kalat.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed his condolences, denouncing the attack and condemning the terrorist organizations, referring to them as Fitna-Al-Hindustan, a term used by the government for terrorist groups operating in the region.

A search operation is currently underway in Mastung as security forces attempt to locate the assailants responsible for the attack. Despite the recent spate of violence, provincial officials have expressed confidence that such acts will not deter the resolve of the people or the security forces in Balochistan.
