GHOTKI — Tufail Rind, a prominent journalist and General Secretary of the Mirpur Mathelo Press Club, was tragically shot dead in a targeted attack on Wednesday morning in Ghotki, Sindh. According to police, the incident occurred near Masoo Wah on Jarwar Road while Rind was on his motorcycle, taking his children to school.
Unidentified assailants opened fire on Rind, killing him instantly. His body was later transported to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Mirpur Mathelo for further investigation. Authorities have confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the murder, and Ghotki’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) stated that the killing appeared to be linked to a property dispute. He assured the public that all those involved in the crime would soon be brought to justice.
During the shooting, Rind’s eight-year-old niece, who was riding with him, fell off the motorcycle and sustained minor injuries. Tragically, despite receiving medical aid at the hospital, the young girl later passed away due to the trauma.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow over the journalist’s death, emphasizing that attacks on journalists are attacks on the freedom of the press. His office has demanded a detailed report from the Inspector General of Sindh Police regarding the incident.
In response to the murder, journalists in Ghotki staged a protest outside the SSP office, calling for justice for Rind and his family.
