Karachi heatwave deaths have raised serious public health concerns after at least eight people reportedly died amid extreme temperatures sweeping across Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, on Monday.

Karachi is facing one of its most intense heatwaves of the year, with emergency services confirming multiple fatalities linked to extreme heat conditions. Rescue officials reported that the deaths occurred across several parts of the city, intensifying concerns over public safety during the ongoing heatwave.
Temperature Surge and Weather Conditions
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed that Karachi recorded its hottest day of the year, with temperatures reaching 44.1°C. Despite the presence of sea breezes, humidity levels significantly increased the “feels-like” temperature, making outdoor conditions even more severe.
Meteorologists warned that hot and humid weather will persist, with temperatures expected to remain near 39°C in the coming days.
Rescue Reports and Victim Details
According to rescue authorities, eight individuals lost their lives in separate incidents across Karachi. Four bodies were found on streets in areas including Manghopir, Boat Basin, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, and Suparco Road.
Another four individuals were transported to hospitals from Liaquatabad, Surjani Town, Jamali Bridge, and Defence Phase 8, but could not survive due to deteriorating conditions.
Officials noted that some victims were suspected drug users, while others appeared to have succumbed directly to heat-related complications.
Medical Warnings and Public Advisory
Health experts have urged citizens to take strict precautions during the ongoing heatwave. Authorities advised residents to avoid outdoor exposure during peak hours between 11 AM and 3 PM, stay hydrated, and wear light-colored clothing.
Doctors also warned against consuming unsafe street food and unfiltered water, emphasizing preventive measures to reduce the risk of heatstroke and dehydration.
Government and PMD Response
The PMD and local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Emergency services remain on alert as Karachi experiences sustained high temperatures combined with humidity stress.
Officials have urged the public to follow safety guidelines to reduce heat-related illnesses as the weather system continues to intensify across the region.
