Lahore: Lahore Police have arrested a woman in the Defence area for allegedly torturing and killing animals, including cats, rabbits, and exotic species, after graphic content of the abuse was shared on social media, prompting swift action following a tip from JFK Animal Rescue and Shelter.
The case surfaced when the shelter flagged an Instagram account posting disturbing images and videos of animal cruelty. ASP Shehrbano Naqvi led a police raid on the woman’s residence, uncovering animals kept in inhumane conditions amid scattered cigarettes. The woman, suspected of mental health issues, has been transferred to a medical facility for treatment. A formal case (FIR) has been filed, and rescued animals are under care: domestic ones at JFK’s shelter with support from the Pakistan Animal Rescue Centre, and wild species with the Wildlife Department.
ASP Naqvi urged the public to prevent individuals with mental health challenges from keeping pets and stressed raising awareness about animal cruelty, warning it could escalate to harm against vulnerable people. The investigation continues to determine the motive, which remains unclear, possibly linked to rituals or other factors.
