Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz declared on Wednesday that Pakistan is now under sincere and competent leadership, both in the military and political spheres, citing diplomatic achievements and steady economic progress as proof of improved governance.

LAHORE – Addressing a ceremony for her flagship housing initiative, ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that Pakistan’s current leadership is sincere and capable, marking a new chapter of stability, service delivery, and international progress.

“The country is finally in honest hands,” she said, adding that the noise of political chaos and abusive rhetoric has been replaced by public-focused governance. “Those who spread unrest don’t understand the satisfaction of public service. Setting fires is easy—serving the public is true leadership.”

During the event, Maryam Nawaz launched the first phase of the ‘Apni Zameen Apna Ghar’ scheme, which will distribute 2,000 free plots across 19 districts of Punjab. She announced that individuals without land will be granted free plots, while low-income families will have access to interest-free housing loans.

She emphasized transparency and merit in the project, stating that 64,000 individuals have already received interest-free loans in just seven months. “No government has issued 50,000 interest-free loans in six months. This is a claim I make proudly,” she said.

Maryam revealed that 9,000 houses have been completed, and construction is underway on 45,000 more. Her goal: 500,000 homes in five years, with 150,000 targeted annually. Rejecting criticism of regional bias, she asserted that “every city matters,” especially South Punjab, where she promised increased housing development.

Highlighting the socio-economic impact, she noted that many of those previously involved in building homes for others are now becoming homeowners themselves. “Punjab’s housing programme will soon be a model for the world,” she added, crediting her father Nawaz Sharif for motivating her to deliver on this promise.

Major Initiatives Unveiled:

  • 1,100 Electric Buses: Maryam announced that Punjab will soon launch 1,100 electric buses with an affordable fare of just Rs20 per ride, a major step towards clean and accessible urban transport.
  • Clean Water Access: She pledged to address Punjab’s water shortage and deliver clean drinking water to every household.
  • Healthcare at Doorstep: In a new move for healthcare delivery, she promised door-to-door medicine delivery for patients across the province.
  • Crime Reduction: The Chief Minister also pointed to declining crime rates since the formation of the Crime Control Department (CCD), and confirmed she had ordered heightened alertness ahead of expected protests—protests which, she said, never came.

“We didn’t need to make noise or beat drums,” she said. “Let others show dreams — we’re busy making them real.”

Her remarks come as part of a broader narrative of governance focused on service, accountability, and infrastructure development. With several key projects underway, Maryam Nawaz continues to position her administration as performance-driven and people-centric.
