PM Sharif Joins 17th ECO Summit in Azerbaijan for Regional Growth

Islamabad, July 4, 2025 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Azerbaijan on Thursday to attend the 17th Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) Summit, held in Khankendi from July 3–4, focusing on sustainable development and regional economic integration.

The summit, themed “New ECO Vision for a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future,” brings together heads of state, ministers, and international organization leaders to discuss enhanced trade, transport connectivity, energy cooperation, and sustainable growth within the ECO region. Prime Minister Sharif, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, landed in Shusha, where they were welcomed by Azerbaijan’s Minister for Culture Adil Karimli at Fuzuli Airport, along with Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin and other officials.

During the two-day visit, the prime minister will share Pakistan’s perspective on regional and global challenges, reaffirming commitment to the ECO Vision 2025. He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with other ECO leaders to discuss mutual interests, strengthening diplomatic and economic ties. The summit includes an “ECO Week” from July 1–4, featuring forums across Azerbaijan to promote youth engagement, gender inclusion, and economic connectivity.

The previous ECO Summit, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on November 9, 2023, was attended by Pakistan’s then-caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, highlighting Pakistan’s consistent engagement with the organization’s goals.
