MURREE – In a major push to transform Murree into a world-class tourist destination, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a series of development projects aimed at improving infrastructure, public services, and accessibility. The ambitious plans include a Green Line bus service, a new train route, water supply initiatives, school upgrades, and healthcare improvements.
During the inauguration of the Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Centre in Samli, Murree, CM Maryam highlighted the swift completion of the heart facility, which had already performed five angiographies on its first day. The center, which will also offer cardiac surgeries in the coming days, is part of a larger effort to boost healthcare in the region. The Punjab CM further emphasized that Murree’s health, police, and education departments were now operating independently, reflecting a shift toward greater local governance.
In addition to healthcare, CM Maryam outlined several infrastructure projects designed to cater to the region’s growing tourism. “The expressway has been built to accommodate millions of visitors, and the ‘Suthra Punjab’ program is ensuring cleanliness across Murree,” she said. A tourism force has been established to enhance the area’s appeal as a top tourist destination globally.
A significant development is the launch of the Green Line bus service, which will offer free rides for students, women, and the elderly. In addition, a new train service will be introduced to ease transportation for tourists, eliminating the need for private vehicles. CM Maryam also revealed that 15 new buses had been ordered to serve Murree, with plans to run three buses to Samli Hospital for improved healthcare access.
Beyond transportation and healthcare, CM Maryam announced major projects in education and sanitation. Murree’s schools are set to undergo extensive upgrades, and a major water supply project, alongside a sanitation initiative, is set to improve the living conditions for residents.
Notably, the Murree Cardiac Centre will also serve nearby areas, including Galiyat, while a modern hospital will be built in Bhurban. The administration has been tasked with ensuring these vital services reach all corners of the region.
CM Maryam took the opportunity to contrast her government’s actions with past administrations, emphasizing that while others may have made empty promises, her government has consistently delivered on its projects. Despite facing significant challenges, such as severe flooding in Punjab, she reaffirmed that her administration’s progress would not be hindered.
