Terrorism Case Filed Against Imran Khan’s Sisters and 400 PTI Supporters

RAWALPINDI – Authorities have registered a terrorism case against the sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and around 400 other individuals following a sit-in outside Adiala jail on Tuesday night.

The first information report (FIR) filed at Saddar Beroni Police Station lists Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi, Qasim Khan, Aliya Hamza, Salman Akram Raja, Naeem Panjotha, and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas among the accused. The charges fall under the Anti-Terrorism Act, along with provisions of Section 120 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for allegedly planning a criminal conspiracy against the state. Additional allegations include attacking police personnel, violating Section 144, and obstructing public order.

According to the FIR, the suspects blocked the road, raised slogans against the government, and disrupted police duties. Police reported that demonstrators pelted stones and threw glass bottles during the protest. Fourteen individuals were arrested on the spot and presented before an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

The protest erupted after authorities barred Khan’s sisters and PTI supporters from meeting the former prime minister, who has been imprisoned since August 2023. Imran Khan faces multiple ongoing cases, including corruption and terrorism charges, following his removal from office via a no-confidence motion in April 2022.

This latest incident is part of a series of PTI protests aimed at securing access to the jailed ex-PM. Last week, police ended another prolonged sit-in by Khan’s sisters outside Adiala jail after official visiting hours ended. In November, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi staged a 16-hour sit-in at the facility.

The government has indicated the possibility of transferring Imran Khan to another prison, with statements from Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah highlighting ongoing security and logistical considerations.

The ongoing tensions underline the persistent friction between PTI supporters and state authorities over access to the jailed former prime minister, highlighting the volatile political climate in Pakistan.
