Pakistan is set to record a major breakthrough in its sporting history as the national women’s football team prepares to participate directly in a Fifa Football Series event for the first time. The development marks a historic debut for the country on the global football stage.
The participation comes through the Fifa Football Series — a programme introduced by Fifa President Gianni Infantino to provide competitive opportunities for national teams that do not qualify for the Women’s World Cup. The initiative aims to expand international exposure and enhance global football development.
PFF Hails “Proud Moment” for Pakistan
Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Mohsin Gilani described the announcement as a transformative step for Pakistan women’s football, calling it a moment of pride and progress. He said that although Pakistan has taken part in qualification rounds before, this will be the first time the country is represented in a Fifa event itself.
Gilani expressed gratitude to the Fifa leadership for recognising Pakistan’s growing potential, adding that the move will inspire emerging players across the country. “Seeing Pakistan’s flag at a Fifa platform is a personal milestone and a national achievement,” he said, noting that the inclusion has revived optimism about a “bright and promising future” for women’s football.
Pakistan Placed in Ivory Coast Group
Pakistan, currently ranked 154th out of 198 teams in the Fifa Women’s World Ranking, has been placed in the Ivory Coast group for the 2026 edition of the Women’s Fifa Series. Fifa has yet to reveal match dates and specific opponents, with details expected in the coming months.
The announcement is already being viewed as a pivotal opportunity for Pakistan’s players to gain international experience, strengthen competitive exposure, and further solidify their presence in global football.
