Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed praises momentum in Pakistan-UAE relations following high-level discussions in Islamabad
United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Friday concluded his first official visit to Pakistan after holding what officials described as wide-ranging and productive discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reaffirming the strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the talks focused on reinforcing cooperation across multiple sectors while reviewing progress in existing areas of collaboration. Both leaders exchanged views on expanding engagement in economic development, investment, energy, infrastructure, information technology, and technology-driven growth.
Focus on Trade, Investment, and Regional Stability
The two sides stressed the importance of boosting bilateral trade and deepening people-to-people ties, while also discussing key regional and global developments. President Al Nahyan and Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination on issues of mutual interest.
Officials said both leaders expressed satisfaction with the current direction of Pakistan-UAE relations and reiterated their shared resolve to work together toward long-term peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Warm Reception and Ceremonial Welcome
President Al Nahyan arrived in Islamabad earlier in the day accompanied by a high-level delegation. As his aircraft entered Pakistani airspace, it was escorted by Pakistan Air Force fighter jets in a ceremonial show of respect.
At Nur Khan Airbase, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, senior cabinet members, and top officials welcomed the UAE leader. The reception included national anthems, a 21-gun salute, and a guard of honour by contingents of the Pakistan Armed Forces.
Children dressed in traditional attire waved Pakistani and UAE flags, while military and cultural bands performed during the ceremony.
High-Level Delegation and Public Holiday
The UAE delegation included senior advisers, members of the ruling family, federal ministers, and UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Salem Mohammed Al Zaabi.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, this marked Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s first official visit to Pakistan as UAE president, following a private visit earlier this year. The government declared a public holiday in Islamabad for the occasion, resulting in the closure of courts and parliamentary secretariats, while banks and essential services remained operational.
