United Opposition Takes Shape in Islamabad
Fazlur Rehman, Achakzai Agree on Joint Role
PPP Position Raises Questions

Islamabad: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced the formation of a united opposition after meeting opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai.

Fazlur Rehman’s delegation included Kamran Murtaza and Maulana Waseh, while Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai and Asad Qaiser were present alongside Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
Before the meeting, Fazlur Rehman briefly spoke to the media and said that if it were up to him, the PTI founder’s treatment would have been completed by now.
Following his meeting with the opposition leader, Fazlur Rehman announced the formation of a united opposition while speaking to the media.
He said consultations had been held with the opposition leaders in the Senate and National Assembly. In principle, there was agreement that they should move toward forming a united opposition and play a joint parliamentary role.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said further consultations would continue and more meetings would be held on the matter. He expressed hope that it would prove to be a good beginning and said that an environment should also be created for an All Parties Conference of opposition parties.
A journalist asked whether the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would also be included. Fazlur Rehman replied that the PPP is part of the government. See More on Pulse Pakistan
