Franchise Continuation Revealed as 3D Animation
The creators of the blockbuster Baahubali franchise have officially dropped the teaser for a major new cinematic project: “Baahubali: The Eternal War.” The announcement confirms that the epic saga will continue, not through a live-action third installment, but as a high-budget 3D animated film.
The reveal coincides with director S.S. Rajamouli’s promotional activities for the theatrical re-release, “Baahubali: The Epic.”
During promotions, Rajamouli clarified the nature of the new project, directly addressing rumors of a Baahubali 3. He stated: “The rumour is that we are announcing ‘Baahubali 3’, but that’s not true. It’s a continuation of the world of Baahubali. It’s an animated film.”
The film’s description hints at a deeper dive into the lore: “Amarendra Baahubali’s death wasn’t his end; it was the beginning of something Eternal.”
Creative Team and Budget
The ambitious animated feature will be directed by Ishan Shukla, known for his work on projects like Star Wars: Visions and The Bandits of Golak.
Rajamouli credited producer Shobu Yarlagadda for pushing the vision to extend the Baahubali universe beyond the core live-action films.
“He met a young and talented animation director, Ishan Shukla, who came up with an idea to extend the story—the same characters, but on a different tangent. I really liked the idea,” Rajamouli shared.
The project, which has been in development for approximately two and a half years, boasts a substantial budget, estimated by the filmmaker at around Rs 120 crore.
Baahubali: The Eternal War is currently slated to open in theaters in 2027.
Prior Animated Efforts
This move into 3D animation follows the franchise’s previous venture into the medium, which included a 2D animated show released on Amazon.
