Imran Khan Directs Immediate Resignations from Punjab Assembly Committees
PTI Leader Takes Bold Political Step Amidst Ongoing Strategy Shifts
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has issued a directive for all PTI members to immediately resign from their positions in the Punjab Assembly standing committees. The announcement was made by Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the PTI Chairman, who spoke to reporters on Thursday after a meeting with Khan at Adiala Jail.
According to Gohar, PTI currently holds 14 standing committees in the Punjab Assembly, but the party is now focused on recalibrating its political stance, including pulling back from active participation in these committees. This strategic move follows the resignation of PTI members from the National Assembly and Senate committees earlier this year, reflecting the party’s ongoing shift in approach.
PTI’s Boycott of By-Elections: A Part of Broader Strategy
The resignations are part of PTI’s broader political strategy, which also includes boycotting upcoming by-elections. This move aligns with the party’s position that its political adversaries are using legal and institutional means to stifle PTI’s influence, particularly after the controversial ouster of Imran Khan from office.
Khan’s directive comes on the heels of political turmoil, with party leaders arguing that all legal cases filed against the PTI founder are politically motivated to keep him sidelined. Barrister Gohar termed the latest case against Khan, the Toshakhana Two case, as the fifth such “bogus” case aimed at politically weakening the party.
Health Update on Imran Khan: “In High Spirits”
During his interaction with the media, Barrister Gohar also provided an update on Imran Khan’s health, assuring the public that the PTI leader was in good health and high spirits despite the challenges he faces. Gohar noted that this was his first meeting with Khan in several days, emphasizing the former Prime Minister’s resilience amid ongoing legal and political battles.
Key Developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Leadership
In addition to the developments in Punjab, Barrister Gohar touched upon the political transition taking place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He confirmed that Khan would make the final decisions on cabinet appointments after the new chief minister (CM) assumes office. Gohar clarified that the newly appointed CM had been nominated by Khan himself, and the PTI fully supports this decision.
However, the resignation of KP’s outgoing Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has sparked controversy. Gandapur’s resignation was reportedly delivered to the Governor House, but the matter remains unresolved as Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has not formally received or acted upon it. Kundi, who was in Islamabad at the time, stated that he would review the resignation once it is officially presented, citing constitutional and legal considerations before signing it.
Political Transition in KP: A Source of Controversy
Governor Kundi emphasized that the resignation, once formally received, would be assessed in accordance with the law, and any discrepancies would lead to its return. Meanwhile, PTI Senator Ali Zafar shared that Khan believes the current cabinet will remain in place for the time being, with potential adjustments to be considered only if necessary. Zafar underscored that the change in KP leadership is a constitutional matter, and any attempt to obstruct this process would result in strong protests from PTI.
As the political landscape in both Punjab and KP evolves, the PTI continues to navigate complex internal dynamics, with its founder’s bold moves shaping the party’s strategic direction. The coming days will be crucial as the leadership reshuffles unfold, and the country watches closely for further developments in these high-stakes political maneuvers.
