Imran Khan Health Improves After Eye Procedure as PTI Raises Jail Meeting Concerns

Full News Article

Imran Khan’s health update emerged on Monday as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan confirmed that the jailed former prime minister’s condition has improved following a recent eye procedure, citing messages received from former first lady Bushra Bibi.

Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Barrister Gohar said Imran Khan remains under medical care after undergoing an eye-related procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) last week. He noted that doctors had recommended immediate medical intervention due to the risk of potential vision loss.

Medical Procedure and Hospital Visit

According to Barrister Gohar, Bushra Bibi conveyed that Imran Khan was taken to hospital after experiencing intense eye pain. Medical professionals reportedly warned that delaying treatment could have resulted in permanent damage to his eyesight.

The PTI chairman said the visit to PIMS was carried out on medical advice and that the former premier is continuing post-procedure treatment. Family members of Bushra Bibi were recently permitted to meet her in prison, marking the first such interaction in nearly three months.

However, Imran Khan was not present during the meeting, a point that PTI leaders say reflects ongoing restrictions around jail access.

Concerns Over Jail Meetings

Barrister Gohar expressed dissatisfaction over the continued denial of meetings with the PTI founder, stressing that jail ملاقات should not be politicised. He argued there is no written law preventing political discussion during prison meetings.

“There should be one standard of law for everyone,” he said, questioning why certain political figures are treated differently despite historical precedents of leaders remaining active while incarcerated.

He added that no political discussion, including matters related to February 8 protests, took place during the meeting with Bushra Bibi.

Security and National Issues

Addressing broader national concerns, the PTI chairman called for decisive action against terrorism across Pakistan, naming regions including Tirah, Bajaur, Punjab, and Balochistan.

He urged authorities to implement counterterrorism measures strictly under the National Action Plan, emphasizing the importance of a unified national narrative to combat extremism.

Barrister Gohar also confirmed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had recently discussed provincial matters, terrorism, and outstanding dues during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Denial of Turkiye Offer and Political Allegations

The PTI chief rejected reports suggesting Turkiye had offered assistance regarding Imran Khan, stating he had no knowledge of such a proposal. He recalled that the PTI founder had previously said his “life and death are tied to Pakistan.”

Separately, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja alleged that the party is facing a coordinated campaign aimed at political pressure. He confirmed that disciplinary action against Mashal Yousafzai has been decided but will be implemented after February 8.

Opposition Demands Independent Medical Examination

Meanwhile, National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has written to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging him to ensure an independent medical examination of Imran Khan by doctors trusted by the former premier.

In his letter, Achakzai said recent medical checkups were conducted without the presence or knowledge of Imran Khan’s personal medical team or family. He stressed that allowing examinations by trusted physicians is essential to meet medical ethics, legal obligations, and fundamental human rights.

He specifically named senior doctors from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Shifa International Hospital, urging them to carry out a thorough and independent assessment to ensure full transparency, accountability, and the provision of proper medical care.
